Amid the defensive crisis, New Orleans Saints DC Brandon Staley takes full responsibility and puts his career on the line for the next game: "You can lose faith in me, but never doubt my players."
New Orleans, Louisiana – October 28, 2025
After a storm of criticism erupted online regarding his leadership, Brandon Staley, the defensive coordinator (DC) of the New Orleans Saints, has finally broken his silence — and he isn’t dodging accountability. Following back-to-back defensive collapses, including a 23-3 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, Staley faced the media with candor and conviction.

“This defense hasn’t played up to our standard. That’s on me,” Staley said at the team’s facility on Tuesday. “You can lose faith in me if you want, but don’t you ever doubt my players. They fight, they care, and they represent what this city stands for. I’ll take the heat — and I’ll take full responsibility.”
The Saints have allowed 70 points in the last two games, surrendering explosive plays, missing assignments, and struggling to maintain communication in the secondary — a unit once known for its discipline and toughness. Fans have flooded social media demanding answers, with one viral post asking bluntly, “Is it time for a change at DC?” drawing over 100,000 views.
Staley didn’t shy away from the noise.
“Look, criticism comes with the job. I understand that,” he continued. “But this group isn’t broken. We’ve had breakdowns — not buyouts. We’ve got young guys stepping up, veterans battling injuries, and it’s my job to put them in the right position. That’s what I plan to fix right now.”
When asked about his future, the 59-year-old coordinator made a stunning declaration.
“If we can’t turn this around next week, if we come out flat again — I’ll walk away. No excuses. This organization deserves better, and I won’t cling to a title if I’m not delivering results.”
Staley’s words have struck a chord within the Saints’ locker room, with several players publicly expressing their support. Minkah Fitzpatrick, a safety on the team, reportedly told teammates:
“He’s standing up for us. Now it’s time we stand up for him.”
As New Orleans prepares for a crucial divisional matchup in Week 9, all eyes will be on a defense fighting not only for redemption — but for its coordinator’s legacy.
