Cowboys Officially Sign Star QB, and Dak Prescott's Position in Dallas Is Now in Question as Team Expresses Disappointment Over Missing the Playoffs
Dallas, Texas – After a disappointing season that ended without a playoff berth, Dak Prescott is facing growing frustration from the Dallas Cowboys' leadership. Despite impressive individual numbers, including over 4,500 yards and 30 touchdowns, Prescott could not help his team overcome crucial games. This has prompted the Cowboys' front office to reconsider his role within the organization.
Although Prescott remains the team’s cornerstone, the signing of Will Grier, an experienced backup quarterback, has raised questions about his future with the team. Will Grier, who started his career with the Carolina Panthers and later joined the Cowboys, will be rejoining the team for the 2026 season. Even though Grier did not play in the 2025-26 season, signing him again is a move to strengthen the depth at quarterback and provide additional protection for Prescott in case of injury or instability in performance.
This move does not mean that Prescott is losing his starting position, but the quarterback competition in Dallas will certainly increase. With Grier now back in the fold, the Cowboys aim to provide more security for Prescott and avoid any potential gaps in case things don’t go according to plan.

In a recent interview, Grier shared why he’s returning to the Cowboys:
"I come here with one single purpose – to give my all for this team and this organization. From a young age, my dad always told me that the Cowboys were a great team, 'America’s Team', representing strength and resilience. Growing up with that mindset, my love for this team was forged. And now, having the chance to fulfill that dream, I’m going to give everything I have to help the Cowboys return to glory. This isn’t just a career opportunity for me, it’s a chance to contribute to this team’s great history."
Despite the struggles of last season, Prescott still has the full backing of his teammates and fans. However, with Grier's addition, it’s clear that the Cowboys are looking to boost competition at the quarterback position and ensure they’re covered in case something happens to Prescott during the upcoming season.

While Prescott remains the starting choice, the depth behind him is now stronger, with Grier providing the necessary support. The Cowboys are continuing to build the team with long-term success in mind. While Prescott is still the focal point, the team is also prepared for the unforeseen by strengthening the quarterback position.
Dak Prescott's future is still uncertain, but the addition of Will Grier creates a competitive environment for the quarterback spot. While Prescott remains the Cowboys' top choice, this added competition may push him to work even harder in the upcoming season.
