Detroit Lions Officially Announce 2027 Home Stadium Plan Amid “Ford Field Reimagination” Construction

Posted Feb 28, 2026

Detroit, MI. The Detroit Lions are stepping into one of the most ambitious eras in franchise history.

With the transformative “Ford Field Reimagination” project now moving into its most intensive construction phase, the organization has finalized its detailed plan for the 2027 NFL season.

Construction at Ford Field remains on track, with roughly 18% of the overall project completed to date. Major structural enhancements, including expanded premium seating areas, advanced technology integrations, and significant concourse modernizations, are set to accelerate dramatically throughout 2026.

Team leadership has consistently reaffirmed that the long-term vision for the stadium—scheduled to fully reopen in 2028—remains firmly intact. The reimagined Ford Field will deliver dramatically improved fan amenities, enhanced airflow and circulation through redesigned entryways, state-of-the-art video and audio systems, and a next-generation experience tailored to modern NFL standards.

However, the extensive scope of the 2027 construction phase renders it impossible to host games at Ford Field during that season. The facility will be fully closed to enable uninterrupted demolition, structural upgrades, and major interior transformations.

For several months, the Lions carefully evaluated various contingency options. Key considerations included NFL league coordination, broadcast and scheduling requirements, travel logistics, fan accessibility, and competitive fairness. Ownership also prioritized minimizing disruption for the Detroit community and Lions Nation.

After thorough planning and close collaboration with NFL officials, the Lions have now officially confirmed their temporary home for the 2027 season.

Michigan Stadium (The Big House) in Ann Arbor will serve as the team’s primary home venue for the 2027 NFL season.

Located approximately 45 minutes from downtown Detroit, Michigan Stadium offers exceptional seating capacity (over 107,000), proven infrastructure for large-scale events, and the operational flexibility required to accommodate a full NFL home schedule. The venue has a storied history of hosting major football games and events, making it the ideal and most practical solution during this transitional year.

Team officials are confident that this arrangement will keep the renovation timeline on schedule while maintaining competitive balance and fan engagement. Though the relocation is temporary, the long-term benefits are undeniable.

In 2028, the Lions will return to a completely revitalized Ford Field—poised to be one of the premier venues in the NFL.

But in 2027, Ann Arbor becomes the bridge to that brighter future.

Could the Lions Really Trade Amon-Ra St. Brown for Myles Garrett? A Bold Proposal Shakes Detroit’s Offseason
DETROIT, Michigan – The Detroit Lions are entering the 2026 offseason with one clear objective: elevate their roster back into Super Bowl contention. And if recent speculation is any indication, general manager Brad Holmes may be willing to consider blockbuster scenarios — including one that would send shockwaves through the NFL landscape. A viral trade proposal suggests the Lions could swap All-Pro wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown and draft capital for Cleveland Browns superstar pass rusher Myles Garrett. It’s the kind of idea that instantly divides a fanbase. On one hand, St. Brown is the heartbeat of Detroit’s offense. On the other, Garrett is arguably the best defensive player in football. The logic behind the proposal isn’t entirely irrational. Pairing Garrett with Aidan Hutchinson would create a pass-rush tandem rarely seen in the modern era. One league executive anonymously commented, “If you’re trying to win it all right now, elite edge rushers change everything. They shorten games. They tilt the field.” And Garrett unquestionably tilts the field. Still, parting with St. Brown would be emotionally and strategically complex. The 27-year-old has been one of the league’s most consistent receivers, earning multiple Pro Bowl and All-Pro nods. He embodies Detroit’s grit and resilience. Losing him would alter the identity of an offense that finished top five in total yards last season. Yet Detroit’s offensive cupboard isn’t bare. Jared Goff remains steady under center. Jahmyr Gibbs continues ascending into elite territory. Sam LaPorta provides matchup nightmares at tight end. Jameson Williams has flashed explosive potential. In theory, the Lions could remain a top-10 offense even without their most reliable target. Detroit’s aggressive pursuit of Maxx Crosby earlier this offseason signals a clear theme: Holmes wants a dominant pass rusher. Reports indicated the Lions were willing to part with two first-round picks for Crosby. If that’s true, then packaging St. Brown and a first for a player of Garrett’s caliber doesn’t feel impossible. Of course, Cleveland would need to entertain such a move — and that remains uncertain. For now, this proposal lives in the realm of speculation. But it reveals something undeniable about Detroit’s mindset. The Lions are no longer content with progress. They’re chasing a championship window, and bold conversations are part of that pursuit.
