GREAT MOVE: Seattle Seahawks Extend Star Cornerback Through 2030, Making Him the Highest-Paid CB in NFL History

Posted Feb 27, 2026

The Seattle Seahawks made a franchise-defining statement Tuesday night, signing star cornerback Josh Jobe to a blockbuster extension through the 2030 season. The six-year deal is reportedly worth $162 million, including $104 million guaranteed — making Jobe the highest-paid cornerback in NFL history.

In a league driven by elite quarterback play, Seattle just doubled down on the other side of the ball.

Rewarding a Championship Performance

Jobe’s rise reached its peak under the brightest lights. In the Super Bowl victory over the New England Patriots, he was targeted 13 times — and allowed just three receptions for 11 yards. What opponents thought was a mismatch became a masterclass.

“They kept coming at me,” Jobe said. “I took that personal. Big games are where you prove who you are.”

That night cemented his place as more than just a contributor — he became a cornerstone.

A Lockdown Resume

During the championship season, Jobe recorded 54 total tackles, 14 pass breakups, and consistently graded among the top coverage defenders in the NFC. Sharing the spotlight in Seattle’s aggressive secondary, he evolved into a true shutdown presence.

Head coach Mike Macdonald praised Jobe’s discipline and edge.

“Josh competes every snap like it’s his last,” Macdonald said. “When the moment gets bigger, he gets better.”

Resetting the Cornerback Market

At $27 million per year, Jobe’s extension surpasses every previous cornerback contract. The Seahawks didn’t hesitate — they made him the face of their “Dark Side” defense moving forward.

League executives often debate paying top dollar for defensive backs. Seattle just answered that debate emphatically.

Stability in the Secondary

With questions surrounding the future of other defensive pieces, locking in Jobe ensures continuity. Seattle’s defense thrives on speed, physicality and swagger — traits Jobe embodies.

More importantly, the message inside the locker room is clear: elite performance gets rewarded.

Eyes on a Dynasty

This extension isn’t just about money. It’s about identity. It’s about building a championship foundation that lasts.

“I’m not chasing contracts,” Jobe said. “I’m chasing banners.”

By securing their shutdown corner through 2030, the Seahawks aren’t just protecting the future — they’re daring the league to throw at him.

Just Hours After Retirement Rumors Explode, Seahawks Legend DeMarcus Lawrence Drops Career-Defining Bombshell That Leaves the Entire NFL Stunned
SEATTLE  The whispers began in the earliest hours of the offseason. ESPN's Brady Henderson told @michaelbumpus5 and @StacyRost that there's "a very real question" over whether #Seahawks edge rusher DeMarcus Lawrence could retire this offseason.@BrockHuard then gave his reaction to that possibility.https://t.co/R23I3OiFmD — Seattle Sports (@SeattleSports) February 24, 2026 Would DeMarcus Lawrence walk away at the peak of his career? Would the newly crowned Super Bowl champion choose to retire with a Lombardi Trophy in hand? By midday, those whispers had spread across the NFL. Then Lawrence spoke. And the entire league seemed to pause. Standing before reporters at the Virginia Mason Athletic Center, the veteran defensive lineman for the Seattle Seahawks delivered a statement that immediately flipped the narrative. “This city gave me something bigger than a ring,” he said. “It gave me belief. I’m here to stand beside my brothers and keep writing this story. However long I’m blessed to play this game, Seattle will always have my heart, and I’ll always give it everything I’ve got.” Just hours after retirement rumors surged due to speculation surrounding his contract and salary cap implications, Lawrence made it clear — he has no intention of stepping away. Instead, he will return for the 2026 season to pursue a second consecutive championship. The news stunned the NFL. Lawrence, who arrived in Seattle after a successful run in Dallas, had openly declared upon signing that he wanted to win where he truly believed it was possible. In 2025, he accomplished exactly that — anchoring a defense that powered Seattle to a 29–13 Super Bowl victory over New England. While his impact did not always show up in the box score, it was undeniable. Lawrence consistently generated pressure on opposing quarterbacks, set the edge in the run game, and brought the intensity of a seasoned leader into the locker room. Retirement speculation intensified in part because of financial factors. Lawrence is scheduled to carry a significant cap hit in 2026, leading many to question whether the Seahawks might request a restructure — or whether he would choose to step away after reaching the mountaintop. Instead of retreating, Lawrence delivered a powerful message: he is staying for the city, for his teammates, and because the journey is far from over. He isn’t riding into the sunset. He’s coming back — ready to defend what Seattle just earned.
