Houston Texans Show Strong Interest in Two Standout Stars at the 2026 NFL Draft Combine — Determined to Spend Big to Secure Their Commitment Despite Financial Constraints
HOUSTON, Texas — The Houston Texans didn’t attend the 2026 NFL Draft Combine simply to observe. They arrived with a clear mission: identify game-changing offensive weapons who can immediately elevate the unit. And two names emerging from Indianapolis this week have quickly become priority targets.
Running back Mike Washington Jr. out of Arkansas and tight end Kenyon Sadiq from Oregon delivered head-turning performances that put the league on notice. Washington blazed a 4.33-second 40-yard dash — the fastest among running backs — while Sadiq stunned evaluators with a 4.39 at tight end, along with elite vertical and broad jump numbers that rank among the best ever recorded at his position.

For Houston, these weren’t just impressive measurables. The Texans’ offense ranked middle-of-the-pack last season, lacking consistent explosiveness and dynamic playmaking. Adding a complete tight end like Sadiq or a rare size-speed combination runner like Washington could dramatically reshape the attack.
The challenge, however, is real. The Texans are not positioned especially high in the draft order, and projections suggest Sadiq could come off the board much earlier than Houston’s current selection. That could force general manager Nick Caserio to consider an aggressive and potentially expensive trade-up scenario. Washington may be more attainable, but his stock is rising rapidly after his combine performance.

Complicating matters further, Houston is navigating tight financial parameters. Still, internal sources indicate the franchise is prepared to make a significant investment if they believe either prospect can become a long-term cornerstone. In today’s NFL, investing early in young offensive playmakers often proves more cost-efficient than chasing elite veterans in free agency later.
Head coach DeMeco Ryans understands the urgency. With a strong defensive foundation already in place, adding explosive offensive talent could be the next critical step in transforming Houston from playoff contender into legitimate championship threat.
The 2026 draft remains weeks away. But if events unfold the way Houston hopes, this combine may be remembered as the moment the Texans identified two transformative targets — and made it clear they are willing to pay the price to secure them.
