Houston Texans Show Strong Interest in Two Standout Stars at the 2026 NFL Draft Combine — Determined to Spend Big to Secure Their Commitment Despite Financial Constraints

Posted Mar 2, 2026

HOUSTON, Texas — The Houston Texans didn’t attend the 2026 NFL Draft Combine simply to observe. They arrived with a clear mission: identify game-changing offensive weapons who can immediately elevate the unit. And two names emerging from Indianapolis this week have quickly become priority targets.

Running back Mike Washington Jr. out of Arkansas and tight end Kenyon Sadiq from Oregon delivered head-turning performances that put the league on notice. Washington blazed a 4.33-second 40-yard dash — the fastest among running backs — while Sadiq stunned evaluators with a 4.39 at tight end, along with elite vertical and broad jump numbers that rank among the best ever recorded at his position.

For Houston, these weren’t just impressive measurables. The Texans’ offense ranked middle-of-the-pack last season, lacking consistent explosiveness and dynamic playmaking. Adding a complete tight end like Sadiq or a rare size-speed combination runner like Washington could dramatically reshape the attack.

The challenge, however, is real. The Texans are not positioned especially high in the draft order, and projections suggest Sadiq could come off the board much earlier than Houston’s current selection. That could force general manager Nick Caserio to consider an aggressive and potentially expensive trade-up scenario. Washington may be more attainable, but his stock is rising rapidly after his combine performance.

Complicating matters further, Houston is navigating tight financial parameters. Still, internal sources indicate the franchise is prepared to make a significant investment if they believe either prospect can become a long-term cornerstone. In today’s NFL, investing early in young offensive playmakers often proves more cost-efficient than chasing elite veterans in free agency later.

Head coach DeMeco Ryans understands the urgency. With a strong defensive foundation already in place, adding explosive offensive talent could be the next critical step in transforming Houston from playoff contender into legitimate championship threat.

The 2026 draft remains weeks away. But if events unfold the way Houston hopes, this combine may be remembered as the moment the Texans identified two transformative targets — and made it clear they are willing to pay the price to secure them.

Former Texans Star, Cleveland Browns' $230 Million Contract With Watson Sat Idle All of 2025, Team Wants to Send Him Back to Houston – DeMeco Ryans' Response Surprises the NFL
Houston, Texas – Deshaun Watson, the former quarterback for the Houston Texans, has become the focal point of attention after he missed the entire 2025 season due to a re-injured Achilles. This has led to a series of questions regarding his future, especially as Cleveland Browns is trying to restructure its roster. The $230 million contract the Browns signed with Watson in 2024 appears to be causing significant financial issues for the team. Meanwhile, Watson has not yet been able to prove his value since joining Cleveland, and his current team seems ready to send him back to Houston Texans. A surprising response from Texans' head coach DeMeco Ryans has stunned the NFL, when he shared in a press conference: "He’s an extraordinary talent, and I’ve always respected what he’s done in the past. However, what happened in 2025 was a setback. Everyone knows that when a player doesn’t play, no matter the reason, we have to reassess and carefully consider his future. I had a private conversation with Browns’ head coach Todd Monken, and we’ve made our own decision." With DeMeco Ryans' comments, the curiosity about Watson's potential return to Texans has grown even more. Previously, Texans and Browns had discussions about the possibility of trading Watson, especially as his contract could become a financial burden for Cleveland. The Big Question: Will Watson return to Houston? Is Texans truly ready for his comeback, or will the team continue to build its future around C.J. Stroud? Although no clear answers have emerged, DeMeco Ryans and the Texans have left the possibility open for a dramatic "comeback" of Watson. Watson's future in Houston will not only depend on Cleveland, but also on Texans' decision and how they want to shape the team in the coming years. However, with DeMeco Ryans as head coach, everything could change, especially since he believes Watson could still be the key for Texans to succeed. Cleveland Browns will certainly have to think carefully about whether to stick with Watson or let him go. Meanwhile, Texans has not yet made a final decision on whether to take Watson back. A dramatic offseason awaits both teams, and Deshaun Watson's future could change in the blink of an eye.
