Just Hours After Being Cut, Ex Colts Star Arrested for Public Disorder While Intoxicated — Colts’ Actions Redefine “Family” for the NFL
Indianapolis, Indiana – January 6, 2026
Roster moves by the Indianapolis Colts on Tuesday took an unexpected turn off the field just hours later. According to multiple local reports, veteran offensive tackle Zach Thomas was arrested in downtown Indianapolis Tuesday night following an alleged incident of public intoxication, disorderly conduct, and resisting arrest.

Sources indicate the incident occurred shortly after Thomas learned of his release from the team earlier that afternoon. Witnesses at the scene described him as visibly upset and under the influence in a public area near a busy downtown district. Police were called after bystanders reported an altercation that escalated quickly.
Officers arrived at approximately 9:30 p.m. CST, where Thomas reportedly resisted detention and continued shouting at the scene. Authorities confirmed that no one was seriously injured, though the incident led to multiple charges being filed.

Thomas, 30, had been a veteran offensive tackle for the Colts, contributing primarily as a key blocker and veteran presence on the offensive line. He appeared in 25 career games for Indianapolis before being waived on Tuesday, shortly prior to the incident. Known for his professionalism and leadership in the locker room, the news came as a shock to teammates and coaches alike.
The Colts organization released a statement through head coach Shane Steichen, emphasizing both concern and support:

"This is a difficult situation. Even though he hasn’t played a single game this season, we brought him to Indianapolis. As soon as we learned of the incident, the team reached out to provide support — both legal and emotional. We are here to help him get through this challenging time. Once he is a member of the Colts, he will always be part of our family."
Thomas was booked overnight and later released on bail Wednesday morning CST. The incident remains under investigation, with a court appearance expected later this month.
