L.C. Greenwood, 4-Time Super Bowl Champion, Denied Hall of Fame Induction – Subsequent Voting Scandal Exposed, Enraging Steelers Nation
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
L.C. Greenwood, the legendary Pittsburgh Steelers defensive player and four-time Super Bowl champion, has once again been denied entry into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, despite being one of the greatest players in the franchise’s history. This decision has not only upset Steelers fans but also exposed a scandal within the voting process, causing an uproar across the NFL community.

Greenwood, who passed away in 2013, was a cornerstone of the Steelers’ legendary “Steel Curtain” defense. Over his 13 seasons in Pittsburgh, he helped the team win 4 Super Bowls and earned 6 Pro Bowl selections, along with multiple All-Pro honors. Although sacks were not an official NFL statistic during Greenwood’s career, Pro-Football-Reference credits him with 78 sacks, placing him among the top 3 in Steelers history.
Despite being one of the three senior finalists, Greenwood was passed over once again, with only running back Roger Craig earning enough votes to be inducted. Craig’s induction was a notable achievement, but Greenwood’s omission, particularly after being a finalist multiple times, has sparked widespread criticism.

After the voting results were announced, former Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger weighed in:
"If it’s not him, then no one deserves it more. L.C. Greenwood is the symbol of the Steelers, the heart of the legendary 'Steel Curtain' defense. He made history, and overlooking him is an injustice that can’t be accepted. We cannot forget what he did for this team."
Even fans from rival teams, including the Green Bay Packers, expressed disbelief at Greenwood’s exclusion. The frustration grew as many believed the voting process was unfair and failed to properly recognize Greenwood’s contributions throughout his career.
This controversy not only stirred up the Steelers community but also sparked a broader debate in the sports world about the Hall of Fame voting process. Once again, Greenwood, who gave his entire career to the Pittsburgh Steelers, was denied the recognition he so richly deserved, leaving fans disillusioned.
