The attack took place at Lynch Arena in Pawtucket around 2:30 p.m. Pawtucket Police Chief Tina Goncalves said the shooting was targeted and stemmed from a family dispute.
At police headquarters, a woman identifying herself as the shooter’s daughter told reporters, “He shot my family and he’s dead now.” She added that the shooter had “mental health issues” and was “very sick.”

Police said the shooting was interrupted when a good man stepped in, subdued Dorgan and brought a “swift end to the tragic event.”
In an updated report cited by WPRI, that “good man” has been identified as Green Bay Packers cornerback Keisean Nixon.
According to the outlet, Nixon was present at the arena and intervened during the chaos, helping stop the situation before it escalated further. Authorities have not released additional details regarding his involvement.
As news spread, members of the Packers community began reacting on social media, expressing support for the victims and acknowledging Nixon’s bravery.

Police are still investigating, including interviews with more than 100 witnesses and reviewing game video. The “Senior Night” game pitted the Coventry-Johnston co-op team against Blackstone Valley Schools.
“What should have been a joyful occasion… was instead marked by violence and fear,” Pawtucket Mayor Don Grebien said. “Our prayers go out to the victims and everyone impacted.”
One student recalled hearing several “bangs” then people running for the exits. A live-stream video captured at least 14 rapid gunshots followed by one or two more roughly 10 seconds later, with players and fans scrambling to safety.
The violence left Rhode Islanders reeling, coming barely two months after the Brown University shooting. A massive police response followed, with hockey players evacuated in buses.
Gov. Dan McKee encouraged anyone needing help to call 988 and said mental health resources would be available. FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed agents from the Boston Division are assisting the investigation.
North Providence, Johnston, Coventry and North Smithfield school officials confirmed all their students and staff are safe and accounted for, with mental health support offered.
The Rhode Island Interscholastic League announced it would temporarily suspend all games out of respect for the victims.
