Patriots Are Pursuing the Eagles’ $96 Million Star — And It Could Mean Diggs Must Leave New England to Make Room for a Three-Time All-Pro

Posted Mar 2, 2026

FOXBOROUGH, Massachusetts — The New England Patriots are quietly positioning themselves for a move that could shake up the NFL trade market this offseason. Their target? The $96 million star wide receiver of the Philadelphia EaglesA.J. Brown.

Brown signed a three-year, $96 million extension in 2024 and remains under contract through the 2029 season. He is widely regarded as one of the league’s most complete receivers. From 2022 through 2024, he earned second-team All-Pro honors in three consecutive seasons. In six of his seven NFL campaigns, Brown has eclipsed 1,000 receiving yards — the kind of consistent elite production franchises covet.

League insiders view New England as one of the most logical landing spots if Philadelphia decides to entertain trade offers. The Patriots are looking to upgrade the WR1 position as they continue building around young quarterback Drake Maye. Brown would immediately fill that role as a true No. 1 option on the outside.

However, making such a move would likely require a significant decision regarding Stefon Diggs.

Diggs turned 33 this season and led the Patriots in receiving yards last year with 1,013. But his postseason performance fell short of expectations, and team leadership is reportedly reassessing his long-term role within the offense. If Brown were acquired, it could signal the end of Diggs’ tenure in New England — whether through a trade or a release — in order to create salary-cap flexibility and restructure the receiver room.

With his age and contract number, Diggs could become the financial mechanism that clears space for a younger, prime-level star like Brown.

Philadelphia is not under pressure to move Brown. The Eagles have made it clear they would only consider a deal if presented with an offer they cannot refuse. That likely means a significant draft package — and possibly additional assets — would be required.

This potential pursuit is about more than a transaction. It represents a philosophical pivot. If the Patriots are willing to part with a veteran like Diggs to acquire a receiver in his prime, it would signal an accelerated push toward immediate contention.

With the trade market heating up and offseason decisions looming, the next few weeks could define the future of New England’s receiving corps. And if the $96 million move materializes, it would stand as one of the most dramatic roster shifts of the offseason.

Kyle Van Noy Signs One-Day Contract With New England to Retire at 35, Sends Heartfelt Message to Patriots Fans
One of the defining defensive leaders of the New England Patriots championship era has officially come full circle. Kyle Van Noy signed a one-day contract with New England to retire at age 35, closing the book on a career that flourished in Foxborough and delivering an emotional farewell to Patriots fans. Van Noy first arrived in New England in 2016 and quickly became a perfect fit in Bill Belichick’s complex defensive system. His football intelligence, positional versatility and relentless motor transformed him into a cornerstone of the Patriots’ front seven during one of the franchise’s most dominant stretches. He played a pivotal role in the historic Super Bowl LI comeback victory and later helped secure another championship in Super Bowl LIII. Those performances cemented his place in Patriots lore as a dependable playoff performer and defensive tone-setter. Though his journey later included stops in Miami and Baltimore, Foxborough remained the place where his identity as an elite linebacker was truly shaped. Standing at the podium inside Gillette Stadium, emotion was unmistakable as he reflected on how far he had come. “I wasn’t supposed to make it this far. From being abandoned at birth to standing here with two Super Bowl rings, this journey was never easy. New England didn’t just give me a second chance in football. They gave me a place to belong. I’ll always carry that with me.” His words resonated deeply with Patriots Nation. Van Noy’s story has always been about perseverance, faith and resilience. Adopted at birth and overcoming adversity long before he ever stepped onto an NFL field, he built a career defined not just by championships, but by character. At 35, Van Noy walks away from the game with two Super Bowl rings, multiple playoff runs and the respect of teammates across the league. More importantly, he leaves as a symbol of what it means to embrace opportunity and rise above expectations. For Patriots fans, his retirement is not simply the end of a career. It is the closing chapter of a player who became family in New England. And as he made clear, he will forever be proud to say he finished as a Patriot.
