SAD NEWS: Former Second-Round Pick – One of the Greatest Rookie Stars in Packers History Sentenced to 180 Days in Jail After “Extreme DUI” Case

Posted Feb 7, 2026

Green Bay, Wisconsin – The NFL world was shaken as Eddie Lacy, the former star running back of the Green Bay Packers, officially accepted a plea deal and was sentenced to 180 days in jail in connection with an “extreme DUI” incident that occurred in Scottsdale, Arizona. The news closes a heartbreaking chapter in the life of a talent once viewed as a symbol of hope in Green Bay.

According to court records, Eddie Lacy was arrested on September 30, 2024, with a blood alcohol level more than four times the legal limit. TMZ Sports reported that Lacy pleaded guilty to extreme DUI, and in exchange, prosecutors dropped six additional charges, including reckless endangerment. The case quickly drew widespread attention due to his fame and illustrious NFL past.

Lacy’s sentence includes 180 days of confinement, participation in a behavioral health and family services evaluation, and 30 hours of community service in his home state. Previously, in 2022, Lacy was also arrested for DUI in Scottsdale but avoided jail time and was only required to pay a fine, making this latest ruling significantly more serious.

At the peak of his career, Eddie Lacy was the 2013 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, a key contributor to Alabama Crimson Tide’s three national championships, before being selected by the Packers in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft. In his first two seasons in Green Bay, he surpassed 1,100 rushing yards in back-to-back years, scored numerous touchdowns, and quickly became the focal point of the offense.

During the 2013–2014 stretch, Lacy was viewed as a true “sledgehammer” in the red zone, the perfect piece to help the Packers maintain their cold-weather football identity at Lambeau Field. He was widely regarded as one of the greatest rookies in franchise history and a rare modern-era running back who allowed Green Bay to truly dominate the ground game.

However, Lacy’s NFL career declined rapidly due to conditioning issues and injuries. The 2015 season was a disappointment, 2016 was nearly lost entirely, and his attempt to revive his career with the Seattle Seahawks in 2017 ultimately failed. A player once expected to become a franchise legend slowly faded from the NFL spotlight.

Josh Jacobs Struggles Open Door for Wilson and Brooks in Week 18

Following the troubling news, current Packers running back Josh Jacobs – who has publicly expressed admiration for Eddie Lacy – shared an emotional message: “He’s a player who shaped the way I play the game. I grew up watching him run the ball for the Packers. It hurts to see his career and life take this turn. I pray that he can stand back up and find himself again.” The words close the story with deep sadness, but also leave room for hope that redemption may still lie ahead.

Packers Sign WR Jayden Reed to 3-Year Extension, reveals Jordan Love is the only reason he stayed
GREEN BAY, Wis. — The Green Bay Packers entered the 2026 NFL Draft without a first-round pick after trading it—along with next year’s first-rounder—in the deal that brought All-Pro linebacker Micah Parsons to Green Bay. Despite that, the team still holds eight selections to strengthen its roster for the upcoming season. Those picks will be crucial as the Packers look to retool a roster that has seen several departures in free agency, with relatively few external additions made so far. However, the organization has already taken a major step toward stability by securing one of its top offensive weapons. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Packers and wide receiver Jayden Reed have agreed to a three-year, $50 million contract extension, keeping him in Green Bay through the 2029 NFL season. The timing of the deal is significant. Reed was entering the final year of his rookie contract in 2026 and was set to become a free agent at the end of the season. Locking him in early ensures continuity in the Packers’ offense moving forward. Reed’s 2025 campaign was limited due to injury. He appeared in just seven games after suffering both a Jones fracture and a broken collarbone, finishing the season with 19 receptions for 207 yards and one touchdown. However, his production in his first two seasons underscores why the Packers were eager to retain him. Reed led the team in receiving in both years and established himself as one of the most reliable targets in the offense. In fact, he is one of just four wide receivers in franchise history to record at least 100 receptions, 1,000 receiving yards, and 10 touchdowns within his first two NFL seasons—joining Romeo Doubs, Sterling Sharpe, and James Lofton in that category. Reed’s extension is also considered team-friendly by league standards. While many top wide receivers command contracts averaging around $20 million per year, his deal comes in at under $17 million annually. Following the agreement, attention may now shift to other key offensive players, including Christian Watson and tight end Tucker Kraft, both of whom could be candidates for future extensions. Beyond the numbers, Reed offered a revealing insight into his decision to remain in Green Bay. “Jordan Love is the reason,” Reed said. “That’s my guy. The chemistry we’ve built, the trust—we’re just getting started. I didn’t want to walk away from that.” Reed emphasized that his connection with Love played a central role in his commitment to the franchise, even as he approached what could have been a pivotal contract year. “In this league, you don’t always find that kind of connection,” he added. “When you do, you hold onto it. That’s why I’m staying.” For the Packers, retaining Reed is more than a contract move—it’s a signal of belief in their current offensive core and the quarterback leading it.
