SAD NEWS: Former Second-Round Pick – One of the Greatest Rookie Stars in Packers History Sentenced to 180 Days in Jail After “Extreme DUI” Case
Green Bay, Wisconsin – The NFL world was shaken as Eddie Lacy, the former star running back of the Green Bay Packers, officially accepted a plea deal and was sentenced to 180 days in jail in connection with an “extreme DUI” incident that occurred in Scottsdale, Arizona. The news closes a heartbreaking chapter in the life of a talent once viewed as a symbol of hope in Green Bay.
According to court records, Eddie Lacy was arrested on September 30, 2024, with a blood alcohol level more than four times the legal limit. TMZ Sports reported that Lacy pleaded guilty to extreme DUI, and in exchange, prosecutors dropped six additional charges, including reckless endangerment. The case quickly drew widespread attention due to his fame and illustrious NFL past.

Lacy’s sentence includes 180 days of confinement, participation in a behavioral health and family services evaluation, and 30 hours of community service in his home state. Previously, in 2022, Lacy was also arrested for DUI in Scottsdale but avoided jail time and was only required to pay a fine, making this latest ruling significantly more serious.
At the peak of his career, Eddie Lacy was the 2013 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, a key contributor to Alabama Crimson Tide’s three national championships, before being selected by the Packers in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft. In his first two seasons in Green Bay, he surpassed 1,100 rushing yards in back-to-back years, scored numerous touchdowns, and quickly became the focal point of the offense.
During the 2013–2014 stretch, Lacy was viewed as a true “sledgehammer” in the red zone, the perfect piece to help the Packers maintain their cold-weather football identity at Lambeau Field. He was widely regarded as one of the greatest rookies in franchise history and a rare modern-era running back who allowed Green Bay to truly dominate the ground game.
However, Lacy’s NFL career declined rapidly due to conditioning issues and injuries. The 2015 season was a disappointment, 2016 was nearly lost entirely, and his attempt to revive his career with the Seattle Seahawks in 2017 ultimately failed. A player once expected to become a franchise legend slowly faded from the NFL spotlight.

Following the troubling news, current Packers running back Josh Jacobs – who has publicly expressed admiration for Eddie Lacy – shared an emotional message: “He’s a player who shaped the way I play the game. I grew up watching him run the ball for the Packers. It hurts to see his career and life take this turn. I pray that he can stand back up and find himself again.” The words close the story with deep sadness, but also leave room for hope that redemption may still lie ahead.
