Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – October 28, 2025
The Pittsburgh Steelers have made a decisive move to strengthen their offense, signing wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling to a one-year deal worth over $15 million. The two-time Super Bowl champion joins the black and gold in what head coach Mike Tomlin described as “a necessary and timely addition.”

With the team still searching for rhythm in the passing game after trading George Pickens earlier this year, Tomlin made it clear that this move was about more than numbers.
“We didn’t just need another name on the roster,” Tomlin said. “We needed someone who knows what it takes to win — someone who’s been in locker rooms where accountability matters. Marquez brings energy, experience, and maturity to this group. This isn’t just a signing — it’s a statement that we’re still here to compete.”
Valdes-Scantling, 31, reunites with quarterback Aaron Rodgers, his former teammate from their Green Bay Packers days. The two formed one of the NFL’s most dangerous deep-ball connections in 2020, when MVS posted 690 receiving yards, six touchdowns, and averaged an explosive 17.4 yards per catch — the best mark among all active NFL players.
The veteran receiver, who has also spent time with the Chiefs, Bills, Saints, and most recently the 49ers, said he’s eager to bring leadership and consistency to a young Steelers offense.
“I’ve had the privilege of playing with some of the best — from Aaron in Green Bay to Mahomes in Kansas City,” Valdes-Scantling said. “What I’ve learned is that talent alone doesn’t win championships. Winning teams are built on trust, on discipline, on showing up every single day. I came here because I see that same hunger in this locker room. I want to be part of that fight.”
Tomlin added that Valdes-Scantling’s arrival isn’t about replacing anyone — it’s about elevating everyone.
“He’s played under the brightest lights,” Tomlin emphasized. “We’re not just adding another wideout — we’re adding someone who’s been through the fire and still craves more. That’s the kind of energy our young players need.”
Though Valdes-Scantling is coming off a recent calf injury, the Steelers believe his speed will stretch opposing defenses and reignite Rodgers’ vertical passing game.
“Championship habits don’t happen by accident,” Tomlin concluded. “You build them, day by day, with people who’ve lived that standard. And Marquez is one of those people.”
With Rodgers and Valdes-Scantling reunited once again, Pittsburgh is betting that the spark from their Green Bay days will light up Acrisure Stadium this fall.
