Steelers named top landing spot for projected $48 million ascending NFC receiver
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
As the NFL offseason approaches, the Pittsburgh Steelers are focusing on filling one of their most pressing needs: wide receiver. With their eyes set on strengthening their offensive arsenal, the Steelers are reportedly among the top suitors for Green Bay Packers free agent receiver Romeo Doubs, who is expected to command a four-year, $48 million deal.
Doubs, 25, has quietly emerged as one of the most consistent and promising receivers in the league. Over the past three seasons, he’s earned a solid 78.6 PFF receiving grade, and since 2024, he ranks in the 75th percentile in receiving grade against single coverage. His 2025 campaign was a career year, with 724 receiving yards, six touchdowns, and 55 receptions, all personal bests. As Doubs continues to improve, he’s positioned himself to become a difference-maker for any team fortunate enough to sign him.

For the Steelers, the addition of Doubs could provide the spark their passing game desperately needs. Despite having star receiver DK Metcalf, Pittsburgh’s receiving corps has lacked depth and consistency. Signing Doubs would add another viable option for whoever the team’s starting quarterback will be, and his familiarity with Aaron Rodgers—who may return to the Steelers in 2026—could make for an easy transition.

Steelers Head Coach Mike McCarthy shared:
"Doubs brings the versatility we need. He’s not only an excellent receiver but could also be a key piece in winning critical games. I believe his presence will elevate our offense and create opportunities for other players to shine."
With nearly $45 million in cap space this offseason, the Steelers have more than enough room to sign Doubs and still improve other areas of the roster. Pittsburgh has shown they’re willing to make aggressive moves, as evidenced by their acquisition of Metcalf last year, and they should continue that momentum by bringing in Doubs. This addition would not only strengthen their offense but also provide their quarterback with another dynamic weapon to rely on.
In a season where every team is looking to build for the future, the Steelers have the opportunity to make a major splash in the wide receiver market. By securing Doubs, they could significantly enhance their offense and set themselves up for a successful 2026 season.
