After a bitter loss to the Bills, Jaguars legend Tony Boselli explodes — presenting evidence that officials favored Buffalo and directly sent Jacksonville out of the playoffs
After a 27–24 loss to the Buffalo Bills in the Wild Card round, the Jacksonville Jaguars did not simply exit the playoffs with disappointment — they left amid widespread anger throughout the organization and fan base. A game that should have been decided by players instead became overshadowed by officiating controversy. And as criticism intensified, the greatest legend in Jaguars history spoke out with rare fury.
Tony Boselli did not mince words. He pointed directly at the decisive moments and argued that the Jaguars were treated unfairly. “Go back and watch the tape, and you’ll understand why everyone is so angry,” Boselli said. “This isn’t speculation. These are clear examples of how the game was tilted.” For Boselli, the issue was not the emotion of losing — it was about fairness.
The focal point of the controversy was the tush push executed by Josh Allen with 1:10 remaining in the fourth quarter. The Bills trailed 24–20 and faced 4th-and-1 at the Jaguars’ 11-yard line. Allen was pushed from behind and advanced nearly 10 yards — a distance unprecedented for that type of play. One snap later, Buffalo ran another tush push from the 1-yard line to score the go-ahead touchdown.
Jaguars frustration deepened given that the Bills had previously voted to ban the tush push during the 2025 offseason, while Jacksonville voted to keep it. Former NFL referee Terry McAulay stated that the nearly 10-yard gain was illegal, arguing that forward progress should have been ruled dead earlier. NFL Next Gen Stats showed Buffalo’s win probability jumped from 27% to 77% on that single play — the largest increase ever recorded on a quarterback sneak.
The second controversy came in the second quarter, when Trevor Lawrence dove near the goal line. The on-field call initially awarded Jacksonville a first down, and possibly a touchdown. After a challenge, the ball was spotted inches short, resulting in a turnover on downs. The Jaguars lost nearly guaranteed points, keeping the game within reach for Buffalo’s comeback. For Boselli and Jaguars fans, those two moments were enough to conclude that Jacksonville’s season ended not solely because of execution, but because of controversial officiating decisions.
