BREAKING: 2x Pro Bowl Superstar – who Once Compared to Legend "Terrell Davis" Expresses Desire to Join Detroit Lions After Drama with Texans – Ready to Commit Long-Term to Help Lions Build Championship Legacy

Posted Feb 6, 2026

Detroit, Michigan – In a shocking turn of events, Joe Mixon, the two-time Pro Bowl running back for the Houston Texans, has publicly expressed his desire to join the Detroit Lions after being informed that he no longer fits into the Texans' future plans. Following a series of offseason moves, the Texans decided to part ways with the veteran running back, and Mixon is now looking for a fresh start with a team poised for success.

Joe Mixon’s Notable Achievements:

  • 2x Pro Bowl (2024, 2025)

  • 1,000+ rushing yards and 1,000+ receiving yards in the same season (2025)

  • Offensive Player of the Year 2025

  • Helped Texans reach the playoffs in 2025

Mixon, who joined the Texans in 2024, made a significant impact over the past two seasons. However, after a coaching change under Mike McCarthy, Mixon was informed that his style of play no longer aligned with the team's long-term plans. Now, Mixon is focused on finding a team with championship aspirations, and the Detroit Lions are the team that has caught his attention.

“I’ve always admired the commitment the Lions have to their offense and the culture they’re building,” Mixon said in a statement following his departure from the Texans. “They’re a team on the rise, and I want to be part of that. If the opportunity arises, I’m ready to sign a long-term deal and give everything I have to Detroit. I believe this is the place where I can leave my mark and help lead the Lions to a championship.”

Mixon’s public statement reflects not only his determination to continue performing at a high level but also his commitment to a team with long-term potential. The Lions, with their rising star quarterback and revamped roster, offer Mixon the perfect opportunity to contribute to an exciting future.

“I’m not just looking for a team; I’m looking for a place where I can be part of something special,” Mixon continued. “The Lions are headed in the right direction, and I believe they have what it takes to compete for championships. I want to help build that legacy and make my mark in Detroit.”

The Lions, who have been making significant moves in recent seasons to bolster their roster, are expected to be active in the running back market this offseason. With Mixon’s experience and skill set, he could be the perfect complement to the Lions’ offense as they look to make a deep playoff run.

Mixon’s willingness to commit long-term to the Lions demonstrates his determination to play for a team that values his talent and gives him a chance to win a Super Bowl. The Texans’ loss could very well be the Lions’ gain, as Mixon looks to revitalize his career and help Detroit rise to the top of the NFC.

Just 12 hours after announcing his return, Taylor Decker faces the risk of becoming the “sacrifice” for a blockbuster $39 million deal for a former 49ers star with 5× Pro Bowl honors
DETROIT, Michigan — Less than 12 hours after Taylor Decker delivered his emotional #Year11 message, his future in Detroit has suddenly been thrown into serious doubt. From loyal cornerstone to potential “cap casualty,” Decker could become the sacrifice for a blockbuster move now taking shape. According to Pro Football Focus, the Lions’ offensive line finished the 2025 season ranked 12th — a significant drop from fourth the year before. The departures of Frank Ragnow and Kevin Zeitler were major factors, but Decker’s dip in form and lingering injuries also contributed to the unit’s instability. As Detroit searches for answers, Adam Schefter revealed a rare opportunity. Trent Williams — the five-time All-Pro left tackle for the San Francisco 49ers — is currently locked in a contract standoff tied to a $39 million salary. If negotiations collapse, he could hit the open market. That’s where the financial math turns harsh. The Lions are currently facing a $9.6 million cap deficit. Releasing Decker would free up $11.6 million this year and nearly $18 million in 2027 — numbers that would create space for a major acquisition. Ironically, Decker had just subtly confirmed his return with an emotional Instagram message: “I’m not finished with this journey. Detroit is still home, and I’m ready to keep fighting in Year 11 with my brothers. The job isn’t done.” But in the NFL, emotion rarely aligns with long-term strategy. At 32, Decker may no longer be in his prime, while Williams — even at 38 — is still viewed as one of the elite left tackles in the league when healthy. Detroit now stands at a franchise-defining crossroads: retain a modern icon for stability, or gamble on a high-priced superstar in pursuit of an immediate championship window. In just 12 hours, the narrative has shifted from loyalty to the cold arithmetic of the NFL.
